Black Cowboys and Women of the Wild West (3rd - 6th grade)

In this class, students will learn about Cowboy Bass Reeves and Ms. Biddy Mason. Activities will include a craft as well as activities that include reading, writing, speaking, and listening, skills essential to language development.

It will be a very engaging and interactive class, where one of the main goals is to have fun!

Learning goals:

  • Students will learn about the contributions of black cowboys and black women in the west.
  • Students will do an arts-based activity connected to the lesson.
  • Students will learn how the geography of the land influenced travel in the west.
  • Students will learn legacy terms and strengths-based characteristics that build character.

In this class, students will learn about the African American painter Clementine Hunter. They will have the opportunity to analyze her artwork and paint a picture of their own.

It will be a very engaging and interactive class where students will be able to share their work.
